| Description | 3-cent, typeset in strips of five, of which this is position 1. Prepared by Nashville postmaster W.D. McNish prior to the secession of Tennessee in June 1861. These were apparently intended as substitutes for U.S. postage stamps, which were in short supply after shipments to Tennessee post offices were suspended. Since they were never used, no genuine used copies are known. |
